Puppy Update

As usual I'm way behind in what's been going on. I'm so far behind actually I think I'm first. Why so busy? Because I'm trying to stay sane and stay one step ahead of a busy puppy. Shelby the Magnificent is now just over a year old. And after exactly one year we are finally house trained! Every time we thought she had it, we'd turn around to find another puddle. She'd go for for a couple weeks being really good and then all of a sudden you went to the kitchen to get a Pepsi and your sock was wet. I'd almost resigned to the fact that she would just be one of those dogs that couldn't be trained.

J had an idea to teach her to "speak" at the back door. She caught on to that right away! Jetta already knows that trick and every time she did it she got a treat. It took about a day and Shelby getting real pissed off that she wasn't getting a treat. She caught on that a bark equaled a treat. And then she'd bark like mad! Then every time we let her out she had to "speak". And now! Miraculously she will go to the back door by her self and bark when she needs to be let out! *beaming with joy* Now I can sit and watch tv and relax. I don't have to worry about listening for her wondering where she is and if she's taking a leak on my rug!

She is however, still a giant TURD. If she isn't occupied with a rope or a rawhide or a toy filled with peanut butter it takes her 2.5 second to get into exactly what she shouldn't. Shoes. Toilet paper. Recycle bins. Garbage cans. And in this particular instance, a ball of yarn I bought to make a wreath.

Seriously I went to the kitchen to put my keys on the counter. The yarn wasn't even out of the bag yet. I came back into the room to find this! And she's quiet too! I didn't suspect a thing!

Here both dogs are being very helpful rolling the change!

Shelby enjoying a treat filled with frozen peanut butter.
If it's frozen it takes her longer to devour it.

And here she is hoarding ALL of the toys. Apparently they all belong to her!
